Acne Care, Skin Care Detox: The Ultimate Answer for Clearing Your Acne

Maggie Holly

While many acne sufferers battle their acne year after year, continually popping, picking, scrubbing and applying creams, their acne never seems to improve.  For some, the creams and toners keep the acne in-check but never really cure them of their persistent, painful and unsightly skin.

If you're one of those people and you're ready to try something different, then maybe it's time you consider a deeper acne care skin care routine — a detoxification.

Toxicity is becoming more and more of a problem every day due to chemicals found in processed foods, pollution in the air and water, heavy metals in fish and our increasing reliance on prescription and over-the-counter drugs.

As toxins build up in the body they are generally processed by the liver and kidneys and are expelled through the bowels, perspiration and through urination.  However, many times, the liver and kidneys become over-loaded and are simply unable to expel the toxins allowing them to build up in the bloodstream.  Ultimately, the toxins are secreted through the skin, which irritates the pores and causes acne.

In order to aid the body in its attempt to rid itself of these toxins, the best solution is to go through a detoxification.  The detox process can last anywhere from a couple of days to more than a month, depending on the severity of your case and the type of detox program that you choose.

Detoxifications have been used for thousands of years in certain parts of the world, but in the United States people have turned their noses up to natural remedies until recently.  Now, even medical doctors rooted in their Western medicine have come to recognize the value of alternative forms of medicine practiced in other parts of the world.

The most common form of detoxification has been fasting.  It's been used since the times of Ancient Greece and is just as effective today.

There are many ways to cleanse the body for an effective acne care, skin care solution.  Here are a few of the many ways to cleanse.  Combine several to increase the impact of your detoxification.

Hydration:  Most detoxification plans call to increase the amount of water that you drink.  Water is the body's natural element used to carry toxins out of the system.  Drink large amounts of water during your acne solution detox to dilute the poisons and "wash" your body.

Hyperthermia:  Hyperthermia is the process of raising the body's temperature.  When the body temperature is elevated, as with a fever, the body is able to fight disease, expel toxins and open the skin's pores.

Fasting: After eating, the body spends most of its energy digesting the food.  Only after the food is digested, is the body able to get on to other tasks like cleansing the organs.  Fasting aids the body by allowing it to rest and work on the important task of detoxification.  If you have trouble fasting, try drinking juices through your fasting period as they can help with the hunger while actually aiding in the detox.  Apple juice in particular can be helpful as it's a natural cleanser.

Detoxification Products: Most natural food stores offer a wide array of products that will aid in the detox process.  It's wise to consider purchasing specific cleansing products designed to cleanse your kidneys, liver and colon separately.

What to Expect: During your detoxification be prepared to get lots of rest.  A body cleanse can release large amounts of toxins from your organs into your system before they are expelled.   These toxins can cause flu-like symptoms for the first few days including nausea, diarrhea, aching muscles, and headaches.  Once the bulk of the toxins are released, you'll notice an increase in energy, a clearing of your acne and many other benefits.

Consult with your physician prior to beginning any detox plan.
